Like fingerprints, the shape of a person’s ear is unique to the person. The fundamental structure of everyone’s ears, however, is basically the same. As long as you know how to draw all of the basic parts, you’ll end up with a fine ear.
At first, I’d like you to take a look at what makes up a human ear. I have included names of each part in this lesson when you follow the link below, for reference. If you can grasp how these parts come together, you will be able t use that knowledge to draw any kind of ear on any type of character.
It might help you get better understanding if you touch and feel the shape of your own ears. The gap in the Y-shaped fossa of anthelix stands out the most. Conversely, the part that creates the deepest shadow is the concha. The helix could be called the edge of the ear, and so it creates a shadow similar to a lid or rim. The antilobium is there to protect the hole that leads to the ear canal.
The following link will take you to the tutorial to show how the steps are taken to drawing the ear.
